The Krazy Coupon Lady reported this deal for several popular magazines offering a 6-month introductory subscription for $1, which would be a great way to check out a magazine to see if you wanted to subscribe for a longer period.
They have such magazines, as Food Network, Oprah, Esquire, Popular Mechanics, Redbook, Woman's Day, Road and Track, Marie Claire and several others.
The fine print though is that it is for an "auto-renewal" - they will send you a notice prior to the auto-renewal to debit the form of payment you have on file and you have the option to control/cancel at any time using Amazon's Magazine Subscription Manager.
For example, on the Food Network Magazine, it is $1.00 for 6 months and you have the option to auto-renew for $5 for on year (which is the better deal) or just outright choose a 1-year subscription for $15.
