DECLUTTER: VHS TAPES, A COUNTRY CD AND FIX-IT MANUALS

As I purchased some items at a recent half-price sale at thrift stores, in keeping with my declutter plan that an equal to or greater than numbers of items need to go out I picked out all except the fix-it books for donation.

The Fix-It books had belonged to my ex, Marv, and they were purchased through Reader's Digest Do-It-Yourself Manual and Fix It Yourself Manual and I believe these were purchased in 1990 right after we purchased the house.  I believe he used one as a reference to fix a dryer to replace and element instead of buy a new one and saved us hundreds of dollars.  

They are very informative books and I would recommend them to anyone who owns a home.   Usually more updated versions are available at your local library.

Most of the videos have have seen several times and now available on streaming services, should I want to see them again.  What will miss, as I do with LPs, it the artwork and photos that are on the box used to market the products.   

I am trying to sort through my vast collection to donate all but what I really love, that way I can donate them while people still have VHS tape players to watch them.

As I am not a country fan, the CD is a leftover from when I was engaged to a man that was.   Not sure why he left this and chose to take my Rick Springfield's Greatest Hits and Foreigner 4 CDs.  

I donated clothing as well but the photo didn't turn out.  I have lost weight and sorting through what is too big and getting rid of it as an incentive to keep the weight off, which is even more of a challenge due to the isolation of  mostly staying in due to the Corona virus.

Thrift Store Donations - 90's Triva Game, Ozzy, Sharon and Vampire Wigs,Videos Batman House,and More Clothing

I am continuing to declutter and purge items and here is another round of donations.   An article that I had read in the paper said taking a picture of it and keeping that it a way to help let go of things, so this is part of that.

The above is a 90's Trivial Pursuit game.  This was hard to let go of as a friend gave it to me for Christmas one year.  We played it a few times but Kyle was too young to remember most of the 90s.

Below are an Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne wigs I bought in the mid-2000s.  The vampire wig was purchased around the same time but never end up opening it.  

There are also two pairs of brand new undies that had been part of set that I never wore.  They were ordered pre-gallbladder surgery and I couldn't stand to wear anything that within a few inches of belly button where one of the five incisions was made and have not since that time.

These are a few videos, some VHS and some DVD and a CD I have not used for a long time. 

This was part of my son's much played with Batman house from the mid-1990's.   

I thought of keeping it to make into a Haunted House decoration but just couldn't bring myself to do it as I hope it brings another child as much joy as it brough my son.

Below is a pair of barely worn Dr. Scholl tennis shoes, more slinky bras, undies, an antenna, and a basket.   The only thing I think I wore more than once was the sports bra.   There is a pair of brand new thong panties from another matched set in the basket.  I know some women swear by them as being the perfect undergarment, but they just make me want to swear.

This is a puppy/cow costume (could never figure out which) that my son saw at a garage sale when he was younger and thought it would be perfect to put on one of his Christmas bears.  I kept the bear, but the costume can be another child's puppy/cow.

100 Day Challenge - Declutter - Day Three - VHS of "Criminal Law"

 Item:           VHS of 1988 HBO Original Movie "Criminal Law" starring Gary Oldman and Kevin Bacon 

Owed for:    Over 10 Years 

Why I kept it:    

• Although played to death on HBO in the late 80's, is a rare find now
• Movie shows how versatile actors both Oldman and Bacon in their roles. Up to this movie had seen Oldman play the bad guy and Bacon play the good guy, but it is reversed in this movie.

Why letting go:   

• Have watched it several times over the years and it is a good movie, but I have seen it enough.
• The "Baconthon" idea of watching all Kevin Bacon movies and all eating bacon themed foods and playing Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon for a family or friend gathering for a day sounded better in my head then when I tried to plan it out. 
• There are enough other Kevin Bacon movies at the video store or on Netflix or Hulu could resurrect that idea if anyone was interested.

100 Day Challenge - Declutter - Day One - VHS of "Deceived"

Item:           VHS of 1991"Deceived", starring Goldie Hawn and John Heard

Owed for:    Over 10 Years 

Why I kept it:    

• Is a rare find.  Stars Goldie Hawn in a serious role with no comedy when she was trying to break out of being labeled just a "comedy" actress.
• Loved her hairstyle in the movie (screenshots below)

Why letting go:   

• Watched it twice all the years I have owned it.
• As you can tell from the title, not an upbeat movie although a decent flick.
