100 Day Declutter - DAY 25 - Repurpose Unused Hair Accessories With Nail Polish -#KanDIY

In going through more items as part of the declutter I found some headbands and barrettes I had not used in awhile and I also have a massive amount of nail polish and I had recalled seeing the video below from Youtuber Kandee Johnson and decided to combine the two.

The above was a braided gold band that you find in places like Walgreens and Target and it was too dressy for work, but after painting with from her collaboration with Sinful Colors "Licorice", which is a black color which tones it down and matches more of  my wardrobe.

Below are a few more using Sinful Colors from the Kandee Johnson line so I can match my hair accessories to my nails.

I used the last of the Kanfetti nail polish on this headband.

I only painted the outside of this headband and when it is on an not so close up it looks pretty good.

This one is a Revlon polish in "Teak Rose" on an different braided headband.

In the video below Kandee had ideas to use nail polish on 9 things besides nails (and hair accessories).

I also tried the black on a pair on sneaker type shoes (Propet brand) but it it crackled upon a day of wear and ended up using a Sharpie and trying that instead, but it could be a different type of rubber material.

100 Day Declutter - DAY 24 - A Few Items Purchased at JoAnn Fabrics Purchase To Revamp and Repair

As I have come across a few things that I want to revamp and repair as part of my declutter and have gotten rid of some stuff
  • Rust-oleum Forced Hammered Paint and Primer - $12.90 - 40% off coupon  $5.20 = $7.70
  • Black Clearance Trim - $1.99
  • Black Thread and Magenta Thread - buy one get one free - $2.49
With this have done or plan to:
  • Paint an organizer carts with few silver steel base that I wanted to update
I came across the above can of Forged Hammered Paint and Primer in Chestnut (they didn't have gold) and decided to try that instead.
As the paint said it could be used on plastics, I tried it on a headband that had black mark on it.  Below is what it looked like before and then after one coat.  It could be because my surface is curved, but one coat still shows some of the red peeking through, but I do like the look of it.
  • Update a  Liz Claiborne blazer with the trim,  The black thread will be used on this project as well.
  • Black Jeans with a rip in them repaired with the black thread.
  • Long hoodie repaired with the magenta thread.
All of this will be with an investment of a little over $13.

Joann's usually has coupons for different things on their website here.   They also have an app that you can download on a Smartphone or Iphone and you can opt in to receive text messages for additional savings (source would depend on where you normally get your apps from - just search Joann).

Hobby Lobby carries similar items and they usually have a coupon for 40% off one regular price item on their site and if you are in the market for the same types of products and have both store in your area it would be worth researching to find out which would have the better deal for what you want to purchase,

DIY Makeup Storage and Organization Ideas

In looking for ideas for organizing as part of my 100 Day Declutter and came across this older video on a channel that I have subscribed to called Vasseur Beauty where a perky young woman shares organization, cleaning, beauty, skincare, healthy eating and other tips and tricks and occasionally her supportive husband or adorable baby help her out.

In the video she ideas:

  • DIY Makeup storage out of granola and cereal boxes
  • Make a "Lazy Susan" foundation organizer with 3 round baking pans and marbles
  • Use utility cart to organize bathroom supplies to get off the counter
  • Make a lip stick swatch book out of Pastels Sketch book and stickers to know what you have and easily pick out
  • Invest in clear acrylic makeup organizer on countertop
  • Display skincare items on a large mirror
  • Store washcloths in a magazine rack
  • Empty container for dirty makeup brushes.

I think her idea for using granola and cereal boxes and toilet paper rolls to make a makeup palette organizer is genius.

I also like the washcloth idea and and plan to use Dollar Tree Magazine Rack I purchased recently.

One thing I found distracting in the video was to too large of a sweater that is so far off the shoulder on one side it shows her armpit and looks like there could be a wardrobe malfunction at any time.  While that might be a reason for guys to watch the video, I just wanted to reach through the computer and adjust the sweater it so it was even on both sides so I could enjoy the content without the distraction.

DAY 22 - 100 DAY DECLUTTER - 9 Old Uniforms Garments And An Upcycle Idea - Rag Rug

Items:          9 of my son's old uniform garments

Owned for:   2+ years

Why I kept it:
  • I thought he might pick them up to turn in as I am sure they held money out of his final check for them
Why letting go:
  • He left the job around 2 years ago and I am sure it too late
  • Trying to clear out his room to make it a makeup/craft/storage room.

Destination: Gave to my son and offered to put new patches over anything that had a company name on it and he can also wear when working on vehicles.

Had he not agreed to take them I would have removed the patches and donated to a local thrift store or repurposed into something else, such as a the rag rug using fabric strips and a cardboard loom from the video by  at EHow on Youtube

DAY 21 - 100 DAY DECLUTTER - Donate old magazines/books - bought Dollar Tree Find - Organizer Baskets - $1

Since watching a Youtube video about organizing I have been on the lookout for magazine holders to use in the kitchen and around the house that are not too expensive to use and I found these organizer baskets at a local Dollar Tree for $1 each.

They are longer and not quite as tall, but think they will work well for what I have planned.  They didn't have a vast amount of colors and I settled on the green as I do have other green bins in my kitchen purchased at the Dollar Tree previously.

As part of the declutter is to not bring in new items without getting rid of items, I donated more old magazines and books to a Little Free Library in town (below).   I did find a book as well, but I gave to Marv to read.
